Expressive Lighting

Below is a list of some of the techniques used for lighting and how they each differently affect the image and scene for different effects and feelings

Chiaroscuro - Overcoming the lighting differences with a lack of contrast.

Key Light - Most Important light, the main focus of the scene is likely to be lit this way.

Fill Light - Opposite of Key Light, adding additional depth to the scene and the focus gets more mood.

Back Light - Separates subject from background, my favourite lighting effect.

Hard Lighting - Harsh

Soft Lighting - Fluorescent/Blurry

Overall, the workshop was a positive and enriching experience where I learnt a new appreciation for colour and the feelings they empower. I feel as though I can effectively utilise this in my practical work going forward and expand the feelings that can come out of angry reds, bright yellows and mellow blues. I also felt like the workshop was able to effectively communicate the key concepts and techniques that would allow us to achieve these effects and the more lighting that I work on going forward, the better my own working will become.
